The U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) program is a multi-tiered chemistry competition for high school students. ACS has sponsored the program since 1984.

How hard is Chemistry Olympiad?
The questions are difficult โ they require students to apply their knowledge, solve problems and make educated guesses. The key is not to give up, and remember that even a seemingly low mark can earn an award. For example, in 2021 students needed 17 marks out of 85 to earn a bronze award.

How do you become a member of Biology Olympiad?
Students who want to participate in an IBO must first become one of the top four students in their National Biology Olympiad (NBO). Is the ACS final hard?
People that do really well in chemistry and understand it well, typically do good on the final exam and says that it’s easy. Because honestly, if you know your stuff really well, it IS pretty easy. However, for everyone else (anyone that doesn’t understand Gen Chem 100%), it is an incredibly difficult test.

The highest score was 42. Students who scored 25 or higher were invited to compete in the USA Biology Olympiad Semifinal Exam. In 2014, 7766 students in total registered to the USABO contest in the U.S. 6194 took the test. The highest score is 43.75 (out of 50), and the mean is 21.18.
How many USABO finalists are there?

As you can see there are several topic versions of the exam. In addition, they have different “Year Versions” (for lack of a better term) for each of the topics. For example, let’s say it is 2019, and you are about to take the ACS Chemistry Exam for First Term General Chemistry.
